The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer, and pumpkin spice is everywhere. That can only mean one thing: it’s the start of the NFL season!

What? So soon? Don’t panic. Even at the last minute, it’s possible to throw a fantastic NFL party that will get everyone excited about the upcoming football season.

Here are some tips to ensure your party is the one everyone’s talking about:

  • Remember: It’s Still Nice!

Even though we’ve got fall on the brain, the weather in many parts of the country is still very pleasant, so why not make the most of it before the winter starts to set in? After all, it’s much nicer for your guests to be out enjoying the airiness and openness of the outdoors than staying cooped up inside (and it helps to keep your home tidier, too).

  • Think Comfort

If you’re hosting your party outdoors, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, seating. This isn’t a garden party where your guests will be moving and mingling; they’ll be glued to their chairs for 3 hours (and 12 minutes!) so make sure they have somewhere comfortable to sit. Secondly, think food. If you’re outdoors anyway, it makes sense to fire up the grill, but steer clear of anything fancy. A baked potato bar and tin foil nachos scream ‘NFL season’, and they’re easy to snack on while watching the game.

  • Get Your Audio & Video Set Up

High def is a must, but most importantly of all, you need to make sure that every one of your guests can actually see the game, not just hear it. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to use your backyard TV lift furniture, then this is it. Keep your music to a minimum (or off completely), and let the sounds of the game create your ambiance.

  • Lay off the Lighting

While we’re on the subject, think about your lighting set up, too. Or, more specifically, consider whether you actually need a lighting set up! If you’re gearing up for a late night Broncos vs. Raiders game well after the sun has gone down, it’s natural to want to illuminate your space… but you might find that your TV does a good enough job on its own. Your space should be light enough to ensure the safety of your guests (we don’t want any trips now), but low enough to avoid distracting guests away from the screen.

Ticking all the Boxes

While decorations and intricate homemade cakes featuring your team’s colors are all nice additions to an NFL party, they’re not essential, and if you’re trying to throw something together last minute try not to get too caught up in the little things.

All you really need to throw a fantastic NFL party? A comfortable outdoor space, some traditional game day snacks, and a TV setup that really brings the game to life.
