Which one of these cocktails will you mix up first?

Mojito

This Cuban classic is deserving of a place on any cocktail menu – and it’s super simple to pull together whether you’re making just one or two glasses or a full pitcher to serve multiple guests.

All you’ll need is:

  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 2 ounces club soda
  • Juice from half a lime
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 – 2 teaspoons of white sugar
  • Crushed ice

To create, add the sugar to a tall glass. Squeeze in the lime juice. Now, some bartender flair! Place the mint leaves on the palm of one hand and then hit your palm with the other (as if you were clapping). This bruises the leaves and extracts maximum flavor. Add to the glass. Now, you need to muddle. Sounds fancy, super easy. If you have a cocktail muddler, use that, if not the pestle from a pestle and mortar will do the job. Squash the mint, sugar and lime together. Add rum and soda water and then crushed ice. If you want to be extra fancy, run a quarter of lime around the rim and top with a few fresh mint leaves.

Scale up to feed a crowd!

Want to switch it up? You can also make this with fresh berries. Just add in a handful of raspberries, blueberries or blackberries before you muddle the mint and lime juice.

Gin and Tonic

This is perhaps the easiest cocktail of them all to recreate at home. All you need is gin, soda water and a slice of citrus. The tradition option is lemon but, use what you have – lime, grapefruit and orange all work well.

You’ll need:

  • One shot of gin
  • Cold tonic water
  • Ice and a slice

Add a shot of gin to a balloon glass, top with tonic water. Add a couple of ice cubes and a slice of lime, lemon, orange or grapefruit. You can play around with the amount of gin to your taste. If you want to mix it up, try different flavored gins or tonic waters. This is one super easy cocktail that can be switched up with no effort at all.

Sangria

The ultimate fruity cocktail for hot, sunny days, this one begs to be created in a pitcher (or two!) when you’re firing up the grill. Another great thing about this drink is that it is easy to customize, you can keep it simple or pimp it up depending on what you have on hand.

You’ll need:

  • Bottle of red wine
  • Sprite or lemonade
  • Fresh fruit slices (lemons, lime, oranges)

Pour equal parts wine and mixer into a serving jug, throw in the fresh fruit slices and stir. If you’re feeling fancy, you can swap the red wine for rose wine or prosecco and you can add in additional shots of brandy or rum as desired to taste. Experiment!
